The role of the Young Poet Laureate is to encourage a wider engagement and enjoyment of poetry for young people across Staffordshire.
2019-20 Ollie Hulme Current Staffordshire Young Poet Laureate aged 17 from Weston Coney – ‘Being appointed as Young Poet Laureate is a great honour for me. It’s an exciting opportunity for me to spread poetry and help others to access the power of poetry.
2018-19 Lily Massey – ‘During my year, I really want to prove that any creativity ought to be expressed, and I want to make people feel comfortable with what they do and create – maybe even bring out some new writers’.

2016-17: Isobel Horsley, from King Edwards School in Lichfield was appointed as Staffordshire Young Poet Laureate in 2014.
2015-16: Matilda Houston-Brown first started the role in 2015 aged just 14 years old and currently resides in Stoke on Trent. You can go over to Matilda’s website for more updates here.
2014-15: Harry Shenton was appointed as Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Young Poet Laureate in 2014.
2013-14: Natalie Cotterill was appointed as the first joint Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Young Poet Laureate in 2013, and at the time studied at King Edward VI High School in Lichfield.
